Lipstick on a Pig?

The city of Houston created a Green Corridor for the hundreds of thousands of visitors to FIFA.

Looking at the map, it’s not clear if it’s actually a “corridor”. Appears to be mostly existing features connected by lines on a map.

Is it putting lipstick on a pig? Yes, if the new improvements are temporary.

Like the sidewalk and ADA ramps on St. Emanuel which will be destroyed for the I-45 expansion.

Or the protected walk and bike paths created Downtown. Most of these “enhancements” are labelled temporary. This is bonkers.

Why are most of these improvements temporary?

Because we lack leadership. We have no one at the city who has any vision for Houston and there is no plan to get us there. Patrick Walsh got us Plan Houston and the Houston Bike Plan formalized and funded, Margaret Wallace Brown, David Fields and Veronica Davis made Livable Places and Walkable Places happen plus several safety improvement projects

Remember this is the Mayor who quickly removed the red painted bus only lanes Downtown because they created “traffic congestion” (which is false). Same Mayor who removed the Austin St. bike lane, the Irvington Roundabout and paused and radically changed dozens of projects like Montrose Blvd. and Telephone Rd

Now the Mayor’s decisions about Houston’s future are made based on anecdotes and vibes.
